Overview
Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is an aggressive epithelial malignancy that is the sixth most common neoplasm in the world today. Despite numerous advances in treatment the long-term survival has remained ~55%. This poor long-term survival is due to a number of factors including delayed diagnosis and the development of multiple primary tumors. Therefore, the early detection and prevention of all premalignant lesions is critical for the long-term survival of these patients.

Workplace Violence Prevention: Liability Recommendations for Dentists

Overview
Violence or abuse experienced in the workplace is a critical issue that many organizations face. Dental professionals are at increased risk for experiencing workplace violence due to their close contact with patients as well as working in an occupational environment marked by stress and burnout. It is imperative that dental offices be well educated and fully informed as they deal with this daunting topic. This course will review the topic of violence in the workplace, discuss steps that can be taken to prevent or diffuse its effects and most importantly, explain how to create and implement an effective workplace violence prevention plan. The purpose of this course is to provide dental professionals with information so they may better recognize, address, and prevent violence in their workplaces.

Dental Professional Liability Claims and Licensing Board Actions: Trends and Risk Management

Overview
More than $89 million was paid in indemnity for professional liability claims on behalf of dentists during the 5-year analysis. It is our intention that by identifying areas of high claim frequency and financial severity, where dentists are most at risk for professional liability claims, dentists can concentrate their risk management efforts to improve patient safety, enhance quality of care, and reduce risk and error. Selected claim scenarios will be discussed.
